As an emerging travel destination, the United Arab Emirates (Hall 2.2) are expanding their presence. Abu Dhabi has almost doubled the size of its stand, and the displays of Ras al-Khaimah and Fujairah are much larger than last year. In Hall 26, Vietnam and Laos will be occupying more than twice the floor size of 2017. Egypt (Hall 4.2) will be making an emphatic return with a larger stand. From Asia, Japan has also significantly increased its representation. A number of exhibitors including Malaysia, Thailand, Myanmar and Taiwan will be welcoming visitors on two-tier stands. By the same token, new “leading lights” for the World Tourism Organisation and World Travel and Tourism Council will be at ITB Berlin in these positions for the first time. DESTINATION SPOTLIGHT EUROPE ©JTMBW Lengler Remarkable growth in Europe in 2017 was led by Southern and Mediterranean destinations. Europe recorded 671 million international tourist arrivals in 2017, just over half the world’s total, and 52 million more than in 2016.
